Body Integrity Identity Disorder is a psychological disorder in which an individual will ask for an elective amputation. This amputation is not medically necessary, but sufferers have a desire to become amputees in order to become ideal in their own eyes.
Typically, the amputation would be of a major limb such as an arm or leg. Individuals that have been diagnosed with this disorder first report the trigger during the adolescent years of life. The actual trigger has been reported to be the actual sight of an amputee in which a feeling of recognition becomes apparent in the individual suffering from BIID.
